Our Commitment to Privacy

Stenox is built with privacy as a core principle. We believe your voice data and transcriptions are yours alone.

What We Collect

Only what is needed. The Stenox app does not send voice recordings, transcriptions, or their contents to our servers. The website uses privacy-conscious analytics to understand page performance and the download journey.

  • No voice recordings are sent to us
  • No transcriptions are stored on our servers
  • No voice or transcription content is included in website analytics

Website Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics and PostHog on stenox.app to measure page visits, technical errors, and download interactions. These services may process browser and device information, page URLs, approximate location, and interaction events.

Our custom download events include the app version, the download button location, and the selected tier. They do not include personal information, voice recordings, transcriptions, or transcription content.

Optional Crash Reporting

Stenox offers optional, opt-in crash and error reporting to help us improve the app. This feature is disabled by default—you must explicitly enable it in settings.

If you opt in, only technical crash data is collected (error messages, stack traces, app version). No voice recordings, transcriptions, or personal content is ever included in crash reports.

What Stays on Your Device

All your data remains entirely on your Mac:

  • Transcription history
  • Settings and preferences
  • Smart profiles
  • Usage statistics
  • API keys (stored securely in macOS Keychain)

Local Processing (Transcription & Post-Processing)

Stenox supports fully local processing for both transcription and AI post-processing. When using local models, your data never leaves your Mac:

  • Local Transcription (Parakeet) — Voice-to-text processing runs entirely on-device using Apple Silicon after the model is downloaded.
  • Local Post-Processing (Gemma on MLX) — AI text enhancement and formatting runs locally on Apple Silicon. Your transcriptions stay on your device.

This is the most private option—nothing is transmitted over the network.

Cloud Transcription Providers

If you choose to use cloud transcription providers, your audio data will be sent directly from your device to that provider. Stenox uses a bring-your-own-key (BYOK) model—we never see or have access to your API keys or transcription data.

When using cloud providers, you are subject to their respective privacy policies:

Cloud Post-Processing Providers

If you choose cloud-based AI post-processing instead of local MLX models, your transcribed text may be sent to LLM providers. These are also BYOK:
